Canon U.S.A. has expanded its imageFORCE portfolio with four A4 desktop color printer models designed for organizations that need a compact device with business-class productivity and security features. Announced on October 14, the imageFORCE C1700 Series includes multifunction and single-function configurations, giving businesses a choice between print-only operation and a device that also handles scanning and copying.
Four models for different office needs
The range includes the imageFORCE C1743F and C1743P, which replace earlier imageCLASS X models, as well as the C1752F and C1752P. Canon states that the C1743 models offer print speeds of up to 45 pages per minute, while the C1752 models can reach up to 55 pages per minute when the applicable speed license is enabled. The figures are manufacturer-rated and actual performance can vary with paper size, media type, settings and job complexity.
For a small office, the difference between a single-function printer and a multifunction model is more than a feature checklist. A print-only device may suit a team that already has a separate scanner, while an MFP can reduce equipment duplication and simplify routine document handling. Buyers should consider whether staff need scan-to-email, shared scanning, copying or digital document workflows before choosing a configuration.
Dual-band Wi-Fi and flexible network placement
One of the notable connectivity features is standard dual-band Wi-Fi supporting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. This gives IT teams more flexibility when placing a printer in an office with mixed wireless infrastructure. The 2.4 GHz band can provide broader coverage in some environments, while 5 GHz may offer more available capacity where signal quality is strong and interference is manageable.
Wireless capability does not remove the need for network planning. Administrators should select the appropriate SSID, confirm the security mode and ensure that the printer can communicate with the computers and services that need it. In a business environment, a dedicated printer VLAN or managed device network may provide better control than connecting the printer to a general guest network.
Security features for managed environments
Canon says the series includes Security Environment Estimation, which uses a machine-learning-based algorithm to analyze the operating environment and recommend security settings. Other available protections include Verify System at Startup with Auto-Recovery and Trellix Embedded Control, while an optional TPM 2.0 can add another layer of device protection.
These features can support a broader security program, but they do not replace sound administration. Businesses should change default credentials, restrict management access, keep firmware current and review who can retrieve stored or scanned documents. Security settings should be tested against real workflows because stronger controls can affect functionality if they are not configured carefully.
Recycled materials and document workflows
The new series also incorporates increased use of recycled materials, including selected iron and plastic components. The multifunction models are designed to support future cloud-based workflow capabilities, while compatibility with Canon and third-party solutions can help businesses connect the printers to existing document systems.
What buyers should check
Before selecting a C1700 model, compare print volume, color requirements, scanning needs, network design, security policies and total consumable costs. A practical pilot should test wireless coverage, driver deployment, scan destinations and user authentication in the actual office. The C1700 family adds compact color options to Canon’s business portfolio, but the best fit will depend on how the device is expected to work within the organization’s wider network.
