Canon’s Connected Value Platform Brings AI-Assisted Tools to Everyday Printing

Canon has introduced Connected Value Platform, a cloud-based service designed to add new software capabilities to selected home and office printers. Announced on October 1, the initiative uses generative AI together with Canon imaging technology to help people prepare documents and images before printing. The first phase focuses on selected PIXMA inkjet models and introduces a feature called Web Print Optimizer.

A cleaner route from web page to printed page

Web pages are rarely designed with paper in mind. Navigation bars, advertisements, side panels, oversized headers and large blank spaces can consume ink and paper while making printed material harder to read. Canon’s new optimizer is intended to examine supported web content, identify the information that matters and reorganize the layout into a more print-friendly format.

For example, someone printing a recipe may want the ingredients, instructions and useful photographs, but not the surrounding advertising or comments. A reader saving a news article may prefer a compact document with the main text and images rather than several pages of website furniture. The tool is designed to reduce that manual editing work before a print job is sent to the device.

Applications become the access point

Canon is pairing the platform with updated software: Canon Print Assistant for Windows and the Canon PRINT mobile application. The company described the applications as a central interface through which users can access feature extensions as they become available. That approach could make it easier to add functions without replacing a printer that is otherwise still suitable for everyday use.

The launch is not a universal update for every Canon printer. Compatibility depends on the model and market. Canon identified selected PIXMA devices, and users should check the applicable regional support information before assuming their printer is eligible. The service also has account, connectivity and genuine-consumable requirements in certain markets.

What users should check before trying it

Owners should first confirm the exact printer model, update the relevant Canon application and make sure the computer or phone and printer are connected as required. If the feature does not appear, that does not necessarily mean the printer is faulty; the model, region, application version or service registration may not meet the eligibility conditions.

Because the feature analyzes web content, users should also review the resulting document before printing. Automated cleanup can improve readability, but it may not preserve every layout element exactly as the original page displayed it. Important tables, diagrams, measurements and image captions deserve a quick check.

A software-led approach to extending printer life

The broader significance is the shift from treating a printer as a fixed-function device to treating it as part of an evolving software service. Instead of buying new hardware for every workflow improvement, customers may receive useful capabilities through updated applications and cloud-connected tools. Canon has indicated that additional extensions are planned, including a content-based naming feature for scanned files at a later date.

For home users, the immediate promise is simpler printing of useful web material. For Canon, the platform creates a framework for adding functions over time. Its value will ultimately depend on regional availability, supported models, ease of use and how consistently the AI-generated layouts preserve the information people actually need.

How to get the best result from the new workflow

Users planning to try an AI-assisted print feature should begin with a small set of documents they already understand. Compare the original web page with the optimized output and check whether headings, tables, captions and important images remain in the right order. If the result is intended for a meeting, classroom or customer handout, review page breaks and make sure no key detail has been removed. A short review step is especially useful when the source page changes frequently or contains interactive elements that may not translate cleanly to paper.

Businesses should also decide who is responsible for application updates and feature access. A shared office may need a consistent version across several computers, while a household may simply update the mobile app when prompted. Keeping the printer, application and network configuration aligned can prevent a useful feature from becoming another source of support requests. As the platform develops, users should check release notes rather than assuming every new capability is automatically enabled for every model.

Reading time: 4–5 minutes.
